DESCRIPTION

Video Game Vixxens is an investigation of gender issues, using the vehicle of a women's magazine in order to create an understanding of female characters and their depiction within games. By using the method of ignoring the strengths of these characters and instead focusing on their beauty and sex appeal, these magazine covers cast an exagerated light on those who would normally be considered strong independent female characters apart from their hairstyle or outfit. MORE... The characters featured on the 3 issue covers include Zelda, Samus, and Cooking Mama. By imposing the method of how meatspace women are featured onto virtual women, viewers are forced to confront the idea that representations of women, whether they be imaginary or real, all contribute to issues of gender and identity.
